Mental Health Awareness Month Celebration Event @ Lawrence Heritage State Park
May 5 @ 12:00 pm – 2:00 pm

Join Vinfen and the Point After Club for a community event to honor Mental Health Awareness Month. The event will be celebrated on Friday, May 5 from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Lawrence Heritage State Park. Lunch will be served. This year’s event will focus on the Risky Business campaign, which aims to educate the public on habits and behaviors that increase the risk of developing or exacerbating mental illnesses or are signs of mental health problems themselves. The intent behind this theme is to raise awareness of the risks that these types of behaviors present- especially to young people- to help individuals detect these early warning signs, and to provide resources for prevention and early intervention.

People with psychiatric conditions experience one of the most significant health disparities in the country. Compared with the general population, people with major mental illness lose 25-30 years of normal life span. This is largely due to treatable medical conditions that are caused by lifestyle risk factors such as smoking, obesity, and inadequate access to medical care. The good news is that people can take steps to influence these factors, and significantly reduce the likelihood of an adverse health outcome.

With your support, Vinfen can enhance the health and well-being of those with psychiatric conditions by developing innovative programs that increase health awareness, encouraging physical activity and nutrition education, creating opportunities for exercise and fitness, and promoting community involvement and partnerships to promote healthy living.
