More than 100 Vinfen staff, supporters, and people we serve attended the second ever Human Services Gubernatorial Forum hosted by the Providers’ Council. For the first time since the primary earlier this month, four of the candidates for Governor of Massachusetts appeared together on stage at the historic Faneuil Hall in Boston on Wednesday, September 24. Republican Candidate Charlie Baker, Democratic Candidate Martha Coakley, and Independent Candidates Evan Falchuk and Jeff McCormick discussed their visions for Human Services in Massachusetts.
The event was moderated by Karen Holmes Ward from WCVB Channel 5. Ward opened the forum by asking each of the candidates their views on funding for Human Services in Massachusetts. Each candidate was then asked specifically about their positions on Chapter 257, the act to reform how Massachusetts pays for essential social services. All four candidates said they would implement the law which was passed in 2008 to address more than 20 years of underfunding of the human services system. Each of the candidates also spoke in favor of higher compensation, affordable health care options, and increased educational assistance for direct service professionals working in Human Services.
Vinfen thanks the Providers’ Council for the opportunity to hear from the future leader of Massachusetts.
