On September 13, Baybridge Clubhouse hosted Silence the Stigma Speakeasy at the West End Restaurant in Hyannis, MA. The event was both a celebration of the Clubhouse’s 30th anniversary, and an opportunity for members to educate the community by silencing the stigma and speaking out about mental illness. Guests were encouraged to dress like a Gatsby and to enjoy the music provided by The Jody Moore Band. Hors d’oeurves, mocktails, and make your own ice cream sandwiches were all on the menu. A Gatsby-themed cake was donated by local business, Cakes by Brenna. A silent auction included an array of items, many of which were donated by local businesses.
The event was a tremendous success as both an anniversary celebration, and an opportunity to forge new connections in the community. Several members shared their personal recovery story and members of the community appreciated better understanding the struggles of those dealing with mental illness. Members, who were actively involved in the planning and logistics of the event along with staff, were delighted by the chance to celebrate. One individual remarked, “I’d never been to an event that I can dress up for, and feel so good about myself.”
Funds raised at the event will support opportunities for members and staff to attend conferences, trainings, and community events. A big shout out to the generous sponsors who supported the event including Appcessories Electronics, First Citizen’s Federal Credit Union, NAMI of Cape Cod, Cooperative Bank of Cape Cod, Just Be Yoga, Puritan Cape Cod, Hyannis Main Street Business Improvement District, Garrison Financial, and Cape Cod 5 Bank.
