Daniel dreams of one day making chocolate chip cookies and other treats in his own bakery. He wistfully recalls time spent in the kitchen with his late mother, helping her bake goodies for the family at the holidays. “Baking makes me feel close to her,” he says quietly.
Inspired by a mother’s love, Daniel is following his dream of becoming a baker. With encouragement and support from staff at Vinfen’s Employment Training Center (ETC), Daniel is learning to develop his baking skills and pursue his passion. Three days a week he works at a Wegmans grocery store. Having told the hiring manager of his dream, he hopes to eventually work in the store’s bakery and learn more about baking.
With the holidays approaching, Daniel is planning to make frosted Christmas cookies and has shown an interest in learning to bake bread. Much like his mother who spoiled the family, Daniel loves to show how much he cares by sharing his baked goods with staff and friends. “I like everybody,” he’s quick to say.
When he’s not baking Daniel likes to keep busy. He’s happy to take the bus into Boston and visit his favorite shops, and also enjoys outings with staff and friends from ETC. At home Daniel loves to read ghost stories, especially those that take place in London. He enjoys watching sports with the others in his group home, but prefers that laundry and other chores get done first.
Daniel’s birthday is coming up in January. He’s not sure how he will celebrate but he does know what kind of cake he would like, chocolate!
