Gateway Arts hosted their annual A Taste of Gateway marking their 45th anniversary as a leader in providing careers in art for adults with disabilities at the end of April. The annual fundraiser brought together the community and raised vital funds that support services and create career opportunities for over 100 artists with developmental, psychological, and other disabilities.
The event was both lively and fun. Attendees enjoyed an art swap, a live and silent auction, live music from The Clark Page Project, delectable food, and refreshments. Gateway artist Paul Stevenson created a stunning work of art titled Bish Bash that was the featured piece of the event and was apart of the live auction.
There were 40 auction items and the bidding started promptly at 5 p.m. and ended at 7:30 p.m. “We had a surprise addition to the live auction portion of the evening, a vacation home in Tuscany, Italy, which prompted a bit of a bidding war and was quite popular,” shared Gateway Arts Development Specialist Christine Nolan. Other items up for bid were New England Patriots tickets, memberships to local museums, Boston area experiences, crafts and home goods, memorabilia, and gift certificates to local restaurants.
The Beverly Bernson Award for Outstanding Contribution to Gateway Arts was also given out to Cheryl and Jeffrey Katz of C & J Katz Studio. “Art plays a large role in both our design work and in our personal life. We believe that living with and around art infuses a space with personality and brings joy to the viewer,” explained Cheryl and Jeffery. They have supported Gateway for over twenty years. “Cheryl and Jeffrey led the redesign of our store and graciously spoke about the importance of art in their work and lives,” Christine added.
Multiple attendees mentioned, “This is my favorite event of the year!” Gateway sold approximately 100 tickets and there were over 200 people in attendance for the evening. Gateway Arts raised over $108,000 for A Taste of Gateway and couldn’t be more thankful for all the support they received!
