Washing Cars and Welcoming Donations

With the end of summer near, Cove Clubhouse held a Car Wash and Bake Sale fundraiser, with a goal of raising essential funds to support Cove’s mission. Not only was it a beautiful day, but the Clubhouse received much support from the community as members welcomed supportive patrons.

The sunshine was beaming as the Car Wash began promptly at 10 a.m. on a Saturday morning. Both staff and members took turns holding fun handmade signs at the entrance of the Club to encourage the community to stop by. Many cars visited the Clubhouse to get a much needed scrubbing and happily contributed financially. One of these cars included a classic orange Volkswagen convertible beetle, which everyone enjoyed seeing. In total, around forty cars stopped by and one patron, who thought the fundraiser was spectacular, went to get another car for Cove Clubhouse to wash after their first car was squeaky clean.

Under a tent and away from the sun, members were ready to sell a plethora of baked goods to people as they waited for their car to be washed. Iced tea, iced coffee, lemonade, and bottled water were available for purchase. Other treats for sale included chocolate chip cookies, oatmeal raisin cookies, and both regular brownies and peanut butter flavored. There were also homemade loafs of bread available. All baked goods were made in the Clubhouse kitchen and Clubhouse Counselor Maria Foley worked hard the week prior to make sure everything was ready in time. In total, the Car Wash and Bake Sale raised almost $500! “We made some good money,” shared Cove member Roxanne.

Staff and Members had a wonderful time raising money for the Club. “I liked washing the cars, and I liked the brownies and other food,” mentioned member Joey. Another member Jack explained, “It was a great day.” Staff member Maria stated, “I was very proud of the members that came to help. Everyone pulled together and worked very hard. We sold lots of baked goods and washed a lot of cars. It was a beautiful sunny day and it wasn’t too hot. We enjoyed pizza for lunch. It was the most successful one in the past few years. We had a great day. Thank you everyone!” Program Director Sabrina Kreber’s favorite moment of the day was seeing everyone come together. “This was definitely one of our most successful car washes in the past few years. I’m very excited about that. We had a lot of great helpers, and I was so proud to see the members working so hard and having fun!” Sabrina voiced.
