Staff, people we serve, volunteers, and family members came together for an evening of delicious food, great music, and softball at the Friends of Metro Boston End of the Year Cookout. The bleachers were packed as a huge crowd turned out for the end of summer event. The late summer weather was perfect for the occasion. As the sun was setting, two teams, Vinfen President and CEO Bruce Bird and the Vinfen team, and Friends of Metro Boston Program Director Cameron Zirpolo and the Friends of Metro Boston team played against one another in a competitive yet fun game of softball. The Vinfen team ended up defeating Friends of Metro Boston 9-3 in a friendly, competitive match. Once the game ended, everyone lined up for delicious hamburgers, hot dogs, and grilled chicken, served by volunteers, including longtime Friends of Metro Boston volunteer Bobby Sweeny and his brother Patrick Sweeny. While everyone dined, staff members, and people we serves enjoyed lively conversation as the sun set over the Jim Rice Field.
Cameron remarked, “I have been doing this event for 15 years, and I have never seen this many people here. The softball game went great, the DJ was great, and everyone enjoyed the food.”
