Three-year CARF Accreditation Awarded to Vinfen

Vinfen is proud to announce that we have been awarded a three-year accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) in 2019. This is our 12th consecutive three-year accreditation, which will run from October 2019 to October 2021, and is the maximum level offered by CARF.

CARF is an independent, nonprofit accrediting organization whose mission is to promote the quality, value, and optimal outcomes of services through a consultative accreditation. They provide services worldwide, and providers who meet their standards have thoroughly proved their dedication of providing the best of the best when it comes to support and services. Vinfen passed with flying colors, and CARF highlighted 19 areas of strength throughout the organization.

Vinfen President and Chief Executive Officer Bruce Bird shared, “We are pleased that once again Vinfen received a full three-year accreditation with a limited number of recommendations and a number of strengths. The accreditation process helps us continue our vigilant focus on quality of services and good governance practices, and we learn something in every review.”

Vinfen is extremely passionate about following all standards, policies, and procedures to provide the very best services for people.

Director of Quality Marcie Cook voiced, “Vinfen has achieved another three-year accreditation, which is a testament to Vinfen’s dedication and commitment to improving the quality of lives of the people we serve. Several administrative departments continuously review the CARF standards throughout the year to ensure compliance to these standards. A lot of work is done across many departments in providing examples and evident documentation to show how we are following these standards, as well as participating in interviews with surveyors.” Marcie also added, “Director of Service Maria Joseph and the DayHabs, including DDTC-North and South, continuously demonstrate their strong commitment to providing high quality services to the people we serve, staff, funders, and guardians/ family members. They should be very proud of this accomplishment and all the hard work and effort they put into their work on a regular basis.”

Every year, CARF manuals are ordered to evaluate if any changes have been made. If there are changes, this is then communicated to all Vinfen pertinent parties. Vinfen makes sure to cross examine our policies and procedures with CARF standards on a regular basis to address any areas that may need improvements, and review internal data to ensure high standards are being met across the organization. This includes demographic information of people receiving services, reviews of committee meeting minutes, assessment of balanced scorecards regarding how each department/program is doing, holding Board of Directors meetings, the reviewing and updating of policies and procedures, and the evaluation of program inspections among many other sources of information. Each program also is required to go through specific check-lists to make sure they are adhering to Vinfen standards.

CARF found many areas of strengths that Vinfen thoroughly demonstrated. One asset of Vinfen is our ability of the Board of Directors and senior management to provide responsible governance leadership as well as adhering to Vinfen’s mission, vision, and values when making decisions. Vinfen also is a leader in advocacy and champions both our staff and the people we serve. An example of this is during Vinfen’s annual Celebration of Family Partnerships in early October where staff, people we serve, and their families are celebrated for all their hard work and dedication regarding one’s wellness. In addition, Vinfen values innovation and collaboration among other organizations with the ultimate goal of meeting people where they are at and making sure they are receiving a person-centered approach to their health. Furthermore, Vinfen is committed to the health and happiness of our staff through the recent implementation of Vinfen Wellness challenges and activities, the use of our own Training Center for employee education, as well as our strong commitment to celebrate our staff through awards, events, activities, and newsletters.

Vinfen’s programs for people with mental health conditions are licensed by the Massachusetts Department of Mental Health and approved by the Connecticut Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services. Our programs for people with intellectual and development disabilities are certified by the Massachusetts Department of Developmental Services and the Connecticut Department of Developmental Services. In addition, Vinfen’s People Care Clinic and our Community & Family Counseling Services Clinic in Lowell is licensed through the Massachusetts Department of Public Health.

Vinfen’s utmost priority is the happiness, safety, and wellness of the people we serve. We are proud to have accreditation by CARF, and cannot thank everyone enough including CARF team members and our staff for making this year’s accreditation process another success.
