Each year, three to four teams of Vinfen staff, supporters, and people we serve run together in the annual Run-4-Life relay. The 190-mile run from Hull to Provincetown, MA raises awareness and funds for people with psychiatric conditions served by Vinfen.
On May 13 and 14, 2016, staff, supporters, and people we serve teamed up to race in the 190-mile Run-4-Life. They ran to raise awareness and funds for people with psychiatric conditions, who experience one of the most significant health disparities in the country.
Compared with the general population, people with major mental illness lose 25-30 years of normal life span. This is largely due to treatable medical conditions that are caused by lifestyle risk factors such as smoking, obesity, and inadequate access to medical care. The good news is that people can take steps to influence these factors, and significantly reduce the likelihood of an adverse health outcome. With your support, Vinfen can enhance the health and well-being of the people we serve by developing programs that increase health awareness, encouraging physical activity and nutrition education, creating opportunities for exercise and fitness, and promoting community involvement and partnerships to promote healthy living.
Thanks to your generosity, the teams raised over $25,000 which will help fund Vinfen’s innovative health and wellness initiatives. The event would also not be possible without the help of our sponsors. Thank you to Merchants Leasing, Pelham Pharmacy, Afia, Alexandria Real Estate, and Atwood’s Tavern.
Though the Run-4-Life teams have crossed the finish line, there’s still time to donate and support people with psychiatric conditions. For more information, please visit the Run-4-Life website. Together we can support people with psychiatric conditions, one mile at a time.
