Celebrating Representation in the Media

Vinfen joined GBH’s Disability ReFramed event to celebrate authentic disability representation and the lasting impact of inclusive storytelling on people, families, and communities.

Seeing someone like yourself on television can shape a lifetime of possibilities. That’s the powerful message shared during GBH’s annual Disability ReFramed event, where advocates and artists reflected on the importance of authentic disability representation in media.

Vinfen was proud to sponsor and participate in the June 25 event, which also celebrated the launch of the American Archive of Public Broadcasting (AAPB) Special Collection: Representing Children with Disabilities on Public Television. The collection showcases how public media has consistently led the way in improving accessibility, representation, and inclusive storytelling.

Disability rights activist and author Emily Ladau and acclaimed violinist Adrian Anantawan shared how seeing people with disabilities represented on screen during their childhood helped shape their identities and sense of possibility. The conversation was moderated by Bryan Gould, director of the Carl and Ruth Shapiro National Center for Accessible Media (NCAM) at GBH

As an organization committed to inclusion and amplifying the voices of people with disabilities, Vinfen was honored to support this important conversation and celebrate the impact of representation in creating a more inclusive world.
