GATEWAY ARTS
Vinfen’s Gateway Arts is a nationally and internationally known studio art center with professional studios, a gallery, and a retail store. At Gateway, individuals can pursue their dreams of becoming an artist and develop a career in the arts.
Gateway Arts provides programming geared toward professional development for more than 100 adults with disabilities. Individuals served have intellectual or developmental disabilities; this includes people with spectrum disorders, brain injuries, and those who are deaf-blind. Artists are encouraged to create a unique individualized career by learning new processes and developing skills with the support of a staff of professional artists.
Artists at Gateway Arts develop skills in a multitude of mediums including, but not limited to fabric painting, decorative painting, drawing and painting, graphic design, tie dye, mixed media sculpture, hand-built and wheel-thrown ceramics, sewing, embroidery, knitting, jewelry making, weaving on production looms, creative writing for publication and production in theatre, music, and filmmaking. Artists work alongside each other, supporting and inspiring one another while creating unique one-of-a-kind products.
Each artist is engaged in an ongoing interactive process, where they develop their product line and develop their skills based on their interests and abilities. Each artist explores their desire for recognition in the art world, trying new things and making money by creating saleable items.
Gateway Arts is open Tuesday-Friday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.
