Spreading the Word: Vinfen Community Raises Voices for Advocacy and Inclusion
·
Vinfen community members advocated across Massachusetts to strengthen supports and opportunities for people with mental health conditions, autism, and developmental disabilities.

From rallies at the Massachusetts State House to conversations with elected officials and community employers, members of the Vinfen community have spent the past several weeks raising awareness about the importance of services and supports for individuals with mental health conditions, autism, intellectual and developmental disabilities, and behavioral health challenges.
On April 8, Vinfen staff and self-advocates joined hundreds of individuals from across the Commonwealth at the Massachusetts State House for the 21st Annual Autism Advocacy Day. This year’s theme—Safeguarding Our Future: Defending Critical Services for the Autism Community—brought together self-advocates, families, providers, and lawmakers to highlight the importance of protecting services and advancing meaningful change for individuals with autism and disabilities.
The event also gave Vinfen self-advocates the opportunity to meet directly with legislators, including Senator Paul Feeney and Senator Vanna Howard, who were recognized as Distinguished Legislators for their continued commitment to supporting individuals with autism and disabilities.
Advocacy efforts also continued closer to home. On April 21, Vinfen welcomed State Representative Bill MacGregor, Representative Rob Consalvo, and Representative Sam Montaño to Webster House Clubhouse in Roslindale. Clubhouse members proudly showcased the program and shared the importance of community-based mental health services and recovery supports.
Vinfen is grateful for the continued partnership and advocacy of elected officials who support services that help individuals live healthier, more connected, and more independent lives.
Employment and community inclusion were also celebrated on April 22, when Vinfen sponsored and attended the Massachusetts Clubhouse Coalition’s annual employment celebration event honoring employers who create meaningful opportunities for clubhouse members statewide.
This year, Vinfen’s Point After Clubhouse in Lawrence recognized Stop & Shop Store #92 in North Andover as its Employer of the Year for its outstanding support in employing clubhouse members.
The event also provided members from several Vinfen clubhouses the opportunity to connect with local elected officials and thank them for supporting the vital role clubhouses play in promoting recovery, employment, and community connection.
And just a few weeks later, on May 13, Vinfen staff and service recipients returned to Beacon Hill wearing bright gold t-shirts as part of The Caring Force’s 14th Annual State House Rally. Nearly 600 members of the statewide advocacy organization gathered in the Great Hall to share personal stories and advocate for issues impacting the human services sector, including livable wages and loan repayment assistance for the workforce.
The rally highlighted the power of advocacy rooted in lived experience, as individuals, families, and providers came together to ensure lawmakers understand the critical role human services organizations play in communities across Massachusetts.
Together, these events reflected the strength of advocacy across the Vinfen community — and the importance of ensuring that the voices of individuals with lived experience continue to be heard both at the State House and throughout the communities we serve.
